As I sit here at my office, tearing my way through reports and spreadsheets and other miscellaneous crap, Fireman and Firewoman are out wandering around New York City on their own. Needless to say, I'd much rather be out there playing with them than in here behind my desk.
Despite yesterday's tumultuous weather and the ensuing disaster I've named "Mass Transit and Precipitation", we've been having tons of fun. Yesterday, we hit the American Museum of Natural History, where we wandered among the dinosaur bones and grizzly bears. The highlight of that museum was the Hall of Ocean Life, featuring the life-size model of a blue whale which Fireman tried to have a conversation with a la Dory in Finding Nemo. He speaks very good Whale for a beginner.
After that, we hit the slushy streets to hail a cab and take us across the park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where we spent far too much time in the Egyptian and Medieval wings. By the time we suffered through the Modern Art exhibits and got to the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists (the "pretty paintings" as we deemed them) we were exhausted from being on our feet for five hours without a break.
After another arduous trip on the "Mass Transit and Precipitation" ride, the three of us made it back out to Queens to change clothes and then head back into Manhattan to meet K. for dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, 44&X. K. was meeting Firewoman for the first time (having previously met and licked Fireman), which made the dinner even more exciting. We had a fabulous meal and an amazing dessert.
The four of us retired to my apartmenet where we played several fiercly competitive rounds of Pretty Pretty Princess. It turns out that each of us except Firewoman won at least once. It's okay though, because no matter how much fake jewelry we put on or how savagely we fought over the tiara, she's still the prettiest by default (but don't tell K. that I said that).
